Beskrivning av projektet - Bakgrund
ImageThe project will be implemented in Luanshya district situated in the north part of Lusaka in the Copperbelt province of Zambia, about 321 Km from Lusaka Zambia’s capital city. Luanshya has a population of 148, 000. The economy of Luanshya was dependant on the copper mining industry but because of the serious negative impact on mining industries in Zambia, the Luanshya mines were privatised and closed which led to job losses, high poverty levels, HIV/AIDS, high death rates and an increase in the number of orphans and child headed households.
Luanshya town is one of the poorest towns in the Copperbelt province of Zambia. Luanshya town’s population consists of miners, ex-miners and non-miners including Government workers and peasant farmers. It also consists of widows, widowers, orphans and double orphans.

The project has been planned to provide care and support to 50 child-headed households through improving their standard of living in their homes and uphold their human rights throughout the project lifespan. The priority will be given to child-headed households (these are households which are headed by orphans who have lost both parents, are 15 years and above and have no source of income to sustain their families of 5 to 10 members
